The Minor rugby program is designed to introduce young players to the very basics of rugby. Practices and games focus on running, passing, sportsmanship and above all else, having fun.
U8 and U10 age groups play co-ed, non-contact flag rugby.
The U12's play co-ed rugby with modified contact. Players are introduced to tackling in a safe environment.
The Minor Rugby program will begin, weather permitting, after the May long weekend. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays at St. Maximilian Kolbe in Aurora. Players are encouraged to wear rugby jerseys to practice and they are reminded to wear mouth guards and cleats.
These age groups compete in festivals, held on Saturday or Sunday mornings starting in early June and finishing in late August. Each festival is hosted by a rugby club in the GTA with playing beginning around 9 am and ending by noon.
In addition to training in coaching rugby, many of our minor coaches have also been trained in STARTRugby by Rugby Ontario. This training includes High Five Sport which is Canada’s only comprehensive quality standard for organizations providing recreation and sport programs to children 6 – 12.
Registration can be arranged by contacting the Director of Junior Men's Rugby or attending a spring registration date.
