Senior Men

Our men's team is currently a member of the ORU Marshall Premiership. We annually yield strong results on the field and have an extremely active and supported social apsect off the field. We draw a player base from all parts of Ontario but specifically the Aurora and greater York Region.

We are committed to excellence and as a result, have a diverse and competitive pool of players. Our primary goals are to give our player base the ability to play rugby on the highest level and to promote our sport positively in the community.

We welcome any potential member to feel free to come to one of our training sessions or to join us in any of our numerous social events. We have various teams available for different rugby skills and ages and provide a safe and informed atmosphere for learning the game.

 Ian McLeod (Head Coach)

Qualifications: NCCP 3 Technical Certification, IRB Level 2 Referee; IRB Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach

Bio: Former Barbs player turned coach, Ian McLeod took over the head coaching role in 2013 after serving as the Director of Senior Men's Rugby for 2011 and 2012. Last year he led the 1st XV to the McCormick Cup Finals and the 2nd XV to the Gee Gage Finals. Along with coaching the Barbs he will also be Head Coach of the Ontario U-18 Junior Boys and assist in coaching at the University of Toronto Varsity Blues as well as working with TIRF Rugby as a Technical Director.    

Bart Hennessey

Bio: Former Barbs player turned coach, Bart Hennessey rejoins the coaching staff of the Senior Men after a year break. Bart has lead the 1st XV McCormick Cup victories in 2008 and 2010 as head coach and 2007 as an assistant coach. Under Bart’s guidance the club also won five straight Marshall League Championship.

Khalil Ajram

Qualifications: NCCP Introduction to Competition, IRB Level 1 Referee; IRB Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach, IRB Level 1 Coach of Match Official

Bio: Former Barbs player turned coach, Khalil Ajram joined the coaching staff for the Senior Men team in 2013. Before join the Senior Men program, Khalil served as a coach for the U-18 Boys and U-16 Boys in 2011 and 2012 respectively. His key role is the transition of players from Junior to Senior Rugby. Last year he led the 2nd XV to the Gee Gage Finals. Along with coaching the Barbs he will also be managing the Toronto Rugby Boys High Performance 7’s and coaching Dr. Denison Secondary School Senior Boys Team.  

John Daggett

Qualifications: NCCP 2 Technical Certification

 Bio: John took over the reins of the Georgian College Men’s Rugby program as Head Coach in August of 2012 after serving as an Assistant Coach the previous three seasons. Under his leadership the Men’s Rugby program is quickly developing into one of the elite programs in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA). The Toronto native, now residing in Orillia, brings a wealth of experience to the position.  Being involved in rugby for over 30 years, John is a true student of the game and of coaching and spent the past winter working with Rugby Ontario’s, Centre of Excellence. He has served as Head Coach of the senior men’s North Simcoe Dingos Rugby Football Club in Orillia
